Well, despite the lockdown and impending global recession, beauty brands are still releasing new products en masse. That means a new ‘Buy or Bye?’- and this one is a long one, so grab a tea or coffee! There’s just so much coming out that I found interesting and worth mentioning, whether I buy them or not. In this instance, probably not; let’s be responsible consumers and make smart purchases that will actually enrich our collections!
XX Revolution
This one isn’t a specific product, it's a new brand release that I find exciting. I’ve been really interested in Revolution Skincare lately, so I couldn’t help but notice the enigmatic XX Revolution tab on their website. And it has finally been revealed. It seems that XX Revolution is a millennial-themed sister brand that incorporates makeup and skincare. I don’t quite see the need for a whole new brand for these products; these products could very well just be a new line added to their existing Revolution Makeup brand, but hey, I’m not part of the marketing department.
Launching on June 3rd, the promoted products do seem to have a sleeker, more sophisticated, yet still very Revolution-like, feel that I actually really like. So far, the website advertises
Glow Skin Fauxxdation: a medium to full cover foundation with ‘illuminating pearl particles’ which seems to be available in quite a few shades. I’m looking for a new cruelty free foundation to replace my Revlon one (it’s not cruelty free), and if I can find a shade light enough for my ghostly complexion I will definitely be trying this one!
Crystalxx Shadow palettes: undoubtedly Revolution-styled 12 pan palettes, the collection includes Karat, Platinum, Quartz and Amethyst. I’m not the biggest fan of the Revolution eyeshadow formula, but I’d definitely be interested in seeing what I could create with them.
Cloud Complexxion Soft Touch Primer: supposedly offering a silky blurred finish, this primer is, if nothing else, very aesthetically pleasing. There’s not much by way of how it will affect your foundation, so I’m not sure what its purpose it. I’m not a huge fan of primers, so I don’t think I’ll pick this up, but I’d like to see what other people think of it.
Fixx Mists: another product that I don’t usually use myself, this collection of setting sprays look like they might offer different solutions to different problems. There's not a whole lot of info available yet, but I might actually pick one of these up when I know more.
Hydra Quench Bomb Prime: another primer, this one is allegedly 70% water-infused with a side of Aloe Vera. Not my cup of tea, but interesting for its promise of extra hydration- a prayer answered for my dry and easily-irritated skin.
Xxposure Highlighter: a huge collection of gorgeous highlighters, I can’t imagine anyone not finding one that suits their skin type. One thing I love about Revolution as a brand, aside from being cruelty free, is how inclusive their products are, which is absolutely reflected in this new sister brand. I love it!
Lunar Beauty Moon Prism Blush palette
I’m going to begin by stating that I don’t use blush, but I’m mentioning this blush palette because I love the aesthetic of the Lunar Beauty as a brand, and it’s cruelty free. At the time of writing it’s already out of stock, but I’m sure that it will be back in stock soon. If you’ve tried it, make sure to let me know!
Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Bridal Lipsticks
I love the allure of absolute sophistication of Charlotte Tilbury products, and these new lipsticks are a gorgeous addition to any collection. Available in a nude pink, a golden peachy pink and blushed berry rose, they’re availble on June 4th at $34 each. I don’t usually invest so much on a single lipstick, but I might add it to my birthday list as a special treat (I can’t be the only one who celebrates for a whole week?!).
Milani Sunscreen Setting Spray
A brand that I’ve only recently tried, I think that this product is intriguing, original, and could potentially fulfill a need during the summer months.
This micro-mist setting spray (I’ll believe that when I see it) is supposed to protect the skin from sun exposure- definitely something to keep in mind when preventing wrinkles and sunburn. It’s non-sticky, leaving skin dewy, up to 16 hour wear, and offers SPF 30 protection. At $13.99, I’d be interested to try this cruelty-free formula.
YSL Couture Colour Clutch
Has anyone done this before? I absolutely love this idea; sophisticated and so extra, the packaging looks absolutely gorgeous. Available in two different colour stories; a pinky, gold version, and a pinky blue palette, the two will be released soon. I personally don’t like the colour stories of either of the palettes, I can’t work with blue and I have plenty of pinks in my collection- and YSL isn’t cruelty free after all- so it’s an easy pass for me!
Maybelline The Lifter gloss
A ten-gloss collection that’s available soon, I love the addition of hyaluronic acid in the gloss formula. Hyaluronic acid is great for hydration, soaking in any moisture from the environment which is ideal for the summer months. The glosses seem very lightweight but moderately pigmented, allegedly visibly smoothing the lip surface. Unfortunately, Maybelline is a drugstore brand that isn’t cruelty free, so as much as I’d like to try one of them, I can’t. Boo, Maybelline.
Urban Decay Naked Ultraviolet palette
I know that Urban Decay have been criticised for their endless Naked palette releases, but I’m actually quite interested in this purple palette.
Coming soon, this palette offers 12 shades of mattes, metallics and holographic shimmers- the latter of which I can’t wait to swatch. I know that I have a lot of purples in my collection, but these vibrant shades are too extra to pass up. I definitely think that I’ll be picking this up at some point!
Jeffree Star Cremated palette
Phew. As a former(ish) Goth, I was very excited by all of the teasing that J* had been slipping over the last few months. After the absolute flop of Bloodlust (in my opinion), I figured that the latest dark-themed palette would be as ‘good’ as his Blue Blood and Blood Sugar palettes. As awful as Jeffree is when it comes to colour stories, Cremated takes the cake.
How utterly boring. Controversial palette and shadow names aside, I can’t imagine how the $58 palette can possibly create a myriad of looks- something you’d expect for that jaw-dropping price. I personally don’t like Jeffree Star; he’s a nasty person who seems to think that he’s one of those ‘sassy’ gays, when in reality he’s just an asshole who thinks that he’s funny. He has a history of questionable actions and befriending bad people, and there’s no way that I’m going to finance his next extravagant mansion. Hard pass.
Sigma Rose Gold Iconic makeup brush set
I recently tried Sigma when I picked up the Cor-de-Rosa eyeshadow palette (review here!).
I normally hate palettes that come with a double-ended brush, but it proved to be an excellent marketing move for Sigma, as I absolutely love using it.
I love rose gold (how basic, I know), and I really would love to invest in a cruelty free brush set. At the moment, what with the pandemic and questionable financial future, it would be irresponsible of me to go out and purchase these brushes, but if I have the chance, maybe during a sale, I’d love to try them all out.
F80 flat kabuki: used to blend liquid and cream products into the skin, such as foundation or cream contour, I don’t need this as I use and love my Penneys/Primark sponge.
F37 Spotlight Duster: to apply powder. I love my Blank Canvas Cosmetics brush, but it is getting old and rattles when I use it, so an upgrade would be nice.
F03 High Cheekbone Highlighter: what a fancy name! I don’t have anything like this in my collection, so I’d love to try this out and see how it diffuses my highlighter.
E38 Diffused Crease: if there’s a brush that I need multiples of in my collection, it’s a fluffy crease brush!
E54 Medium Sweeper: used to pack and blend eyeshadows onto the lid, this is another type of brush that everyone needs multiples of in their collection, especially if you tend to play around with different colours (which I do!).
Phew, that was a long one! Honestly, there’s so much coming out, and so much that I’d like to test out. Is there anything that I missed out on, or do you agree with me?
