ColourPop's Good As Gold palette review

I'm recently single after a messy long distance relationship. No more cosy dates to the cinema, no more fancy bar hopping, no more expensive train tickets to Edinburgh every three months, no more buying cute panties to make him weak at the knees. I'm saving a fortune. But that means no more being cuddled and treated like a princess- it's time for me to take care of myself. So what's a girl to do? Indulge in her makeup dreams, that's what. And ColourPop has been that brand that I've admired but never touched for far too long. At the beginning of December I ordered the Good As Gold holiday palette to try out the brand, and I thought I'd give you guys a quick run down too.

Launched on the 2nd of December (2019 of course), this gold themed palette is perfect for a super glam look. I was amazed by the $18 price tag (€16.23 or £13.83) for 12 pans of mattes, shimmers, glitters and magic.

packaging

I was really impressed with the quality of Good As Gold. The palette itself is a good, sturdy one. Made of cardboard, it doesn't feel flimsy or like it wouldn't protect the fragile product inside. It has a magnetic closure, so it gives that satisfactory click that lets you know that- provided you don't throw it out the window- you won't stick your fingers in a random pan while trying to get it out of your bag. It's smaller than I had expected (the camera does add 10 pounds after all) but very cute and well made. In my opinion, cute packaging is half the fun of playing with makeup, and this palette doesn't disappoint at all. I'm a sucker for butterflies, and the embossed elements on the outside and inside just add that little bit of detail that makes it stand out. Bonus points to ColourPop for having the shade names under the individual pans too!

eyeshadow shades

mattes

The four mattes- State of Mine, Trooper, Bold Rush and Let's Do It- are irresistibly velvety smooth. Bold Rush is my go-to for a transition shade, and State of Mine is the perfect peachy neutral for a base. ColourPop get yet another 10/10 for having a black shade in the palette, and one that doesn't just magically disappear into nothingness when applied to the eyelid.

shimmers

There are six gorgeous shimmers that offer plenty of glam for whatever occasion you throw at them. Diggin' U, 24K, Gold Star, Au Team, Nugget About It and Big Brooch are all different textures that promise plenty of variety for your makeup looks. Au Team is the shade that made me order this specific palette as my first introduction to ColourPop- I don't even wear golds on my eyes normally! A stunning copper shade, I've never seen anything like it. It has an interesting texture; soft and creamy, apparently consisting of a flaky substance that glides when it's swatched. I couldn't apply it with a brush no matter how hard I tried, so fingers it is. I don't usually like applying eyeshadows like that, but for the payout from this shade I'm not going to complain too much. Word on the street is that 24K is a Super Shock Shadow, but I have nothing to compare it with (yet!).

glitters

Gilded and Golden Touch are the two soft glitters in the palette, which some people haven't been best pleased about. I haven't personally put them on my eyes yet, and it's something that I'm debating on. With a bit of glitter glue and a careful hand I'd say that they shouldn't cause a problem, but I understand and respect those who mightn't be so keen on the idea. In my opinion, they're both very similar to Au Team in texture, with those flakes of creamy pigment that glide along as they're swatched, Golden Touch in particular. The only real difference that I can see is that they have some fine glitter added to the mix.

pigmentation, formula & blend

The formula in Good As Gold is a thing of dreams.

I own quite a bit of makeup from a lot of prestigious brands like Anastasia Beverly Hills, Inglot and Kat Von D, but I've never fallen in love with a formula. Usually I pop something on my eye, blend a bit and call it a day,

but the Good As Gold palette is an experience.

I guess my conclusion is this; if you're looking for a top quality gold-themed palette this would be it. Each eyeshadow is incredibly pigmented, comfortable to wear, and lasts all day and night. I can't believe that I've been missing out on ColourPop if this is the level of quality their products have. The only downside is that I live in the EU; it took just over three agonising weeks for the palette to arrive, and I'm still waiting to hear how much customs tax I'll have to pay to get it all the way over here. ColourPop, please get a base over here in the EU!
