June Boots haul & first impressions

Since the beginning of lockdown I’ve been trying not to spend too much on makeup or skincare, and I’ve essentially eliminated my monthly beauty allowance. That doesn’t meant that I haven’t been keeping up with the latest though- here’s my new ‘Buy or Bye?’ for June, it’s a long one! As much as I prefer to browse in-store, I have been prone to a bit of retail therapy of the online variety so here’s my latest Boots.ie haul and first impressions.
Botanics All Bright Micellar 3 in 1 Cleansing Solution

I’ve seen Botanics in Boots for a while now, and while I’ve gifted my mum a few different serums for Christmas and birthdays in the past I’ve never considered the brand for myself. When I was placing my order on Boots, I was looking for relatively cheap skincare that I could buy as a little treat, and Botanics kept coming up on my recommended list, so I figured now would be the best time to try it. I picked up a few bits from the range; the first being the All Bright Micellar 3 in 1 Cleansing Solution.
I’ve been looking for an affordable cruelty free replacement for my Simple micellar water for a while now, so I was very interested when I found this product. Looking at the packaging, I was worried that this micellar water would be fragranced and cause skin irritation, but it’s absolutely fine. There’s not a whole lot to say about micellar water in general, but this €6.99/£5.49 cleanser does the job, and well. It removes all makeup, even liquid eyeliner, very easily and it doesn’t cause any irritation. The bottle is cute and holds a whopping 250ml, so I will absolutely be repurchasing!
Botanics Triple Age Renewal Hydrating Eye Serum

A lot of skincare YouTubers say that eye serums are a nice little extra to your skincare routine, which is perfect- ‘extra’ is basically my middle name (though I’ll accept ‘extravagant’ on occasion!). I’ve only been using this cream for two weeks when I’m home in flat, but I think I’m seeing a difference? Maybe it’s a placebo effect, but I think that my eye bags have reduced somewhat.
The eye serum (it’s more like an eye cream) is supposed to hydrate the under eye area, reducing wrinkles and fine lines- none of which I have now, but hopefully in the future my skin will keep its youthful radiance. Hopeful I know, but aside from drinking lots of water and moisturising like a crazy person there’s not much else I can do now. I only use the Triple Age Renewal Hydrating Eye Serum at night as part of my night time routine instead of the recommended twice a day, to avoid any slipping of my foundation. The serum is €14.99/£11.99 on the Boots website for 15ml, but for how little I use every night I think it’s acceptable.
Botanics All Bright Radiance Concentrate Serum

Skincare is definitely something that I’ve been able to investigate and try out the most during lockdown- if my irritable skin has a meltdown, at least I’ll be hidden from the world to deal with it. I ordered the Botanics All Bright Radiance Concentrate Serum because, at €11.99/£8.99 for 25ml, it’s affordable to test out, while scratching my skincare itch.
The serum is formulated with exfoliating AHA, which is why I’ve been using it solely as part of my night time skincare routine- it increases the possibility of sunburn. A very lightweight serum, it’s supposed to improve skin texture and tone. Since I’ve only been using it for the last two weeks I can’t say for definite that I’ve seen a difference in my skin tone, but I’m happy to continue using it.
Boots Traditional Glycerine and Rosewater

I’ve been playing with the idea of a toner as part of my night time skincare routine for a while now, so I was interested in trying the Traditional Glycerine and Rosewater when I saw it available on Boots.ie for €2.99/£2.39. A hydrating toner, it’s supposed to nourish and moisturise the skin.
When I placed my order I didn’t notice that the toner is fragranced- something that is impossible to ignore when you’ve applied it! I generally avoid fragranced products that I won’t immediately wash off, such as a facial wash, so I was a bit skeptical when I first tried it. Fragrance can cause skin irritation, and my sensitive skin has a history of disliking a lot of products. Regardless, I’ve been using this toner as part of my night time routine and I haven’t seen any negative results.
Soap & Glory One Heck Of A Blot primer

I’m the kind of person who never uses a primer, and doesn’t see any difference in longevity when I wear one. I ordered the Soap & Glory primer because everyone and their mother seems to love it. Since I got it, I’ve used it almost every day. I play a game with my teenage sister; ‘what side of my face has primer?’ several times a day, and she flip flops between which side she thinks I’ve applied my primer.
I basically found this €15/£11 primer useless, until I started using The Ordinary Hemi-Squalene serum as part of my morning routine. The serum, while thin and mostly unoffending under my foundation, has caused some slipping under my powder and doesn’t last the whole day. By using the One Heck of a Blot primer, my foundation has actually lasted longer over the serum which is a miracle! I do think that the primer is quite expensive, but for the amount that I use per day, it could very well last for six months or more until I run out.
Milani Stay Put Matte 17hr Wear Liquid Eyeliner

Lastly, if you’ve been following me for a while, you know that I’m looking for a cruelty free drugstore replacement for my trusty Rimmel staple. I’ve started a whole series on my blog; On The Hunt, where I review liquid eyeliners as I search for my go-to everyday product.
Make sure to follow me on @lapetitemis on Instagram to catch my review! I will say that so far I’ve been impressed, but I’ve still some more experimenting before I write my review.
